Sketches of Emotion is a hybrid performance consisting of an installation and a contemporary dance performance through which dance and visual arts are meeting. We invite the audience to give their own interpretation to the performance while observing how a dance performance is turned into a timeless work of art. Through this performance, we aim to give a different interpretation to dance by transforming it into another form of art. In connection with the dancers, the visual artist transcribes feelings, emotions and expressions emanating from the movement onto paper and canvas.

Karen Hendrickx : I, Karen Hendrickx, am a visual artist, born in 1984. I\’m currently working tougether with JC Choreography at the performance Sketches of Emotion. In my work I am always looking for the representation of an expression, an emotion, rather than capturing an image. In this series I try to do this by capturing a movement and showing the tension between the dancers. This way I try to represent the rhythm they express through movement, by using charcoal and paint Justine Copette of JC Choreography: JC Choreography is based in Liege, Belgium, and produces the work of contemporary choreographer Justine Copette. Justine loves to collaborate with people, merge other forms of arts, and dance in alternative space.
