DESCRIPTION: This will be a new performance action that is inspired by the combination of A) being British and being exiled by the UK government from my own country and B) nevertheless making a solo trip to the UK and witnessing Blackpool, a truly sad place that is dying a slow and painful death.
BIO: Bill Aitchison is a performance artist whose work spans live events, audio, video and text. His work has been presented in diverse contexts in the UK and internationally. In the UK at such spaces as the ICA, BAC, Whitechapel Gallery, Rich Mix, Hackney Empire, South London Gallery, Wallspace Gallery, Residence Gallery, Chelsea Theatre, iCIA Bath, Arnolfini, Bluecoat and Allenheads Contemporary Arts, in numerous site-specific exhibitions, events, and artist-curated clubs. He has shown his work widely in Europe, Asia, America and the Middle East in theatres, festivals and galleries including Mousonturm (Frankfurt), Chang Jiang Museum of Contemporary Art (Chongqing), Ming Contemporary Art Museum (Shanghai), OPEN (Beijing), The Brick (New York), RMIT Gallery (Melbourne), ZAZ (Tel Aviv/Jerusalem), Wunder der Praerie (Mannheim), FFT Dusseldorf, STUK (Leuven), ARL (Dubrovnik), IIFUT (Tehran) and CEAC (Xiamen). Bill had had several soundworks, broadcast on Resonance FM among others, and has taught at undergraduate and post-graduate level. His journalistic and critical articles have been published in the UK, Netherlands, Norway, Iran and China and he has collaborated with performance makers working as a consultant and writer.
