DESCRIPTION: A person casts a mask on his own face in a public space. He takes the mask off, decorates it–creating a narcissistic work of art, and destroys it. Passers-by may join in.
BIO: Ari J. Adipurwawidjana studies and teaches critical theory, drama, and literature in ENglish at Universitas Padjadjaran, and had also taught as an adjunct instructor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. His interests focus on the impact of global economy and technological developments on life in the framework of postcolonial and cultural materialist discourse, including issues of class, gender and sexuality, and race and ethnicity. Prior to 2014 his involvement in theater and performance had been sporadic and tangential, but in carrying out postcolonial and cultural materlialist studies on textx, he has come to feel the urgency to have performance as a method in exploring relevant issues.
